Waterproof shoes have come a long way since they were first invented, and the demand has increased with the rise of outdoor sports like kayaking, rafting, river fishing and other sports. With the development of better materials, waterproof shoes are now more durable and comfortable than ever before.
Safety is very important, and these shoes have great traction for wet slippery surfaces. Many outdoors enthusiast find them invaluable when climbing over wet rocks. Many people also feel uncomfortable touching the bottom of a beach or lake, and won’t go in the water without them. Nevertheless these shoes are a must have for any outdoors man.
Waterproof shoes can be classified into three categories:

classic water shoe
Classic All Purpose Water shoe – I’m sure you’ve seen people wear these quite often. They are the most popular and widely used water shoes. These shoes are more designed for your typical beach goer. If you’re not into outdoor sports, like kayaking or some other sport, than these are perfect for you. Most classic water shoes feature stretchy knit uppers & mesh inset. This allows for quick drying, and a secure yet comfortable fit.
One of the most popular brands is Speedo, and they carry a great selection. They can range in prices from $19.99 to $39.99 depending on the brand you buy. Some top models can actually go for a bit more.

waterproof sandals
Water Friendly Sandals – Let’s face it, some people just love wearing sandals to the beach, but not all sandals are built the same. Water sandals are rugged, and designed for the great outdoors. These sandals are well worth the money, compared to your typical sandals that fall apart after a few uses. Many people also refer to them as river shoes, or salt water shoes. The majority of these sandals are extremely comfortable and durable. The straps can adjust to your customized fit, and provide great support. The classic water shoe may slip off on certain occasions, but the sandals provide better support and don’t slip off as easily. They tend to be very lightweight and have rubber soles made from top of the line materials. Columbia makes some great water sandals. I’ll be reviewing a few of them, and from other great brands on my next post. They normally go for $39.99 and above.

athletic water shoes
Athletic Water Shoes – Currently some of the best selling water shoes. They can be considered a hybrid between regular sneakers and classic water shoes. Athletic water shoes are by far the favorites amongst outdoor enthusiast. If you enjoy kayaking, hiking, or any other outdoor sport, than this is the perfect water shoe for you. Even if you don’t plan on being near the water, they are great for everyday walking. The model shown in the image is a New Balance SM820. It comes with a flexible uppers that mold to your foot for the best fit possible. They are extremely breathable and come with synthetic mesh upper. There are many other fantastic athletic shoes I’ll be reviewing in an upcoming post.
So there you have it. These are your 3 types of water shoes for men. On my next post I’ll be reviewing some of my favorites that I recommend.
